Matte World Digital was called upon to enhance the 1940's American South for The Green Mile.

To set the mood for the night of an execution, MWD created a dramatic dissolve sequence of internal and external shots of the prison. Here we see the prison with digital lightning, clouds, and rain.

Actors were photographed near a stone wall. MWD provided guard towers and searchlights, but also trees for the escaping prisoner (and the guards helping him) to hide in. Clouds drift by in the digital moonlit sky.

To create a "magical" mood, MWD added digital fireflies to to this sequence, using custom random-firefly-generating software.
