In order to mark a specific time in the movie in which Rachel knows she'll die, we needed a memorable and somewhat realistic play of light to occur as the sun moved behind a nearby tree. Matte World created the effect through means of a matte painted foundation and heavily composited additional sun, flare, shadow and exposure changes.

This "Day for Night" shot was achieved with a matte painting of the island and lighthouse. The flash and water reflections all interact to add realism to the shot.
