Soldier takes place on a planetary junkyard, "Arcadia 234," that features a landscape littered with huge objects of used technology. MWD created scenes for the film using digital matte paintings and 3D environment creation to establish the planet's mountains of twisted metal, blowing dust and multiple suns.

Actor is photographed on a partial sound stage set against a blue screen so we can place a dramatic sunset sky behind him.

The finished shot with digital matte painting enhancements and miniature photography of a World War II aircraft carrier. CG dust and multiple setting suns within moving clouds complete the shot.

Kurt Russell is photographed with blue screen for a shot that will pull back and lift up to establish the junk planet's environment. Note the white spheres used for tracking targets in order to recover the camera move.

The actor has been tracked into the scene composed of a miniature junk mountain with moving CG parts. Blowing dust and moving clouds are added to the digitally created background environment.
